hey mike, i have an idea…stop amassing “great wealth.”

“The reality of great wealth is that you can’t spend it and you can’t take it with you.” this is mike’s opening line to the introduction of his pledge,  the “giving pledge.”* he goes on to ay, “Making a difference in people’s lives – and seeing it with your own eyes – is perhaps the most satisfying thing you’ll ever do. If you want to fully enjoy life – give.”

isn’t it great to know that wealthy people who forget how they got wealthy in the first place and keep getting wealthier in spite of their best intentions, can figure out a way to make themselves feel good through giving some of “their” fortune away? gosh darn it all…

* the giving pledge in their own words is:

The Giving Pledge is an effort to invite the wealthiest individuals and families in America to commit to giving the majority of their wealth to the philanthropic causes and charitable organizations of their choice either during their lifetime or after their death.
